This is my third visit to Taiwan and my second time renting a car here. A lot of people will say you don’t need to rent a car in Taiwan, I disagree, your range is greatly extended with a vehicle, and if you are in a group, you could even manage some savings. There are sights that can only be reached by vehicle. That said, you should be experienced diving in poorly lit night country roads over elevation, stay safe.

If you intend to stay solely in Taipei, and be close your hotel room, visit night markets, and hang out in shopping malls, then stick to the metro and bus services.
