Welcome Back to BHASVIC – Supporting Your Young Person in Year 2

Welcome to our presentation for parents and carers of second-year students at BHASVIC. It’s a crucial year for your *young person*, filled with big decisions, exams, and planning for their future. But don’t worry, we’re here to support both you and them every step of the way.

What we cover in this video:

- Academic Progress and Pastoral Support
Hear from our Principal, William Baldwin, and other senior leaders about the academic progress of second-year students and how we help them achieve their best. We’ll talk about balancing hard work with personal growth and all the support systems available to ensure they succeed. From tutorials to wellbeing support, we’re focused on helping students thrive.

- University, Apprenticeships, or Employment?
As your young person starts planning their next steps, whether it’s university, an apprenticeship, or entering the workforce, our Careers and UCAS teams are here to guide them. About 75% of our students apply to university, and we’ll cover key dates and deadlines, including our *internal UCAS deadline: Friday, 6th December*.

- Student Services and Support
Vice Principal Alison Cousens walks you through the range of services we offer, from financial support and bursaries to mental health services and career guidance. All of this is available at our Student Services Centre, and students can easily access help either in person or online via the My BHASVIC app.
For any questions or further assistance, feel free to contact Student Services at [email protected].

- Digital Systems and Communication
Assistant Principal Mark Monahan shares how we keep parents informed. Stay up-to-date with our fortnightly mailshots, packed with key dates and updates, and explore the Parents and Carers section on our website, where you’ll find everything from an A-Z guide to calendars. Remember, our Parent Portal allows you to view timetables, attendance, and progress reports. You can access the Parent Portal Cedar here: https://cedar.bhasvic.ac.uk.

- Extracurricular Opportunities
We encourage students to engage with our thriving community. Whether it’s joining societies at our upcoming Enrichment Fair on 25th September, taking part in volunteering, or becoming a Student Union Ambassador, there are plenty of ways to get involved beyond their academic studies.
