When Cristiano Ronaldo left Manchester United in 2009, Sir Alex Ferguson then had a very difficult task on his hands: find a replacement for the Portuguese winger. The first attempt came by way of young French attacker Gabriel Obertan, whom United signed from FCG Bordeaux at the recommendation of Laurent Blanc.
With Obertan, Manchester United didn’t get much from the young attacker. In fact, he played about as many matches for their reserve side as he did for the first team before moving on to Newcastle United. After touring Europe, he now plays in the USA… but he’s not playing in MLS. He’s playing in the 3rd tier of US Soccer.
