The Black Parade is a contentious topic among many people I know. Some think that it’s just another emo album stuck in the dredges of the mid-2000’s, and you know what? Those people are dead wrong. The album is full of incredible tracks that build, evolve, and just demonstrate a level of songwriting ability that hadn’t been seen before, and frankly hasn’t been seen since, in the genre, and nowhere is that more apparent than in the title track. Everyone knows the opening piano eulogy at this point, and it sets the expectations for the song well: this isn’t your mom and dad’s sadboi song, this is a celebration of life and of coming-of-age. The bridge is where it all comes together with the superimposed melody/lyric combo that could honestly motivate anyone to go kick the doors down and succeed at whatever they have coming their way. This song will stand the test of time; it will be replayed on classics stations for decades, and you know what? It will be well-deserved.
