On Aug 28th SM Entertainment shocked fans when they suddenly announced that NCT member Taeil would be leaving the group due to an ongoing investigation into a sexual offense allegation.

Their statement reads..

“This is SM Entertainment. We have recently learned that Taeil has been accused in a criminal case related to a sexual offense. As we were assessing the facts related to the matter, we recognized the severity of the situation and determined that Taeil can no longer continue his activities with the team (NCT). After discussing with Taeil, we have decided on his departure from the group.”

As soon as the news hit the internet, netizens and fans quickly shared their thoughts. Some destroyed their Taeil merchandise, others expressed confusion, and many speculated that the situation must be serious for SM to act so quickly.

One fan commented, “SM has never acted so fast to drop a male idol before. They supported Lucas and even gave him a solo debut. What did Taeil do that made SM cut him loose so quickly“

The investigation is ongoing, and while Taeil is leaving NCT SM has not terminated their contract with him.
