This tool goes by a few different names, bow saw, turning saw, frame saw, or coping saw. I made this saw using a kit from Tools For Working Wood. The kit was only $30 and the site has free plans available. I used the plans for the critical dimensions and then customized them to make the saw look more like antiques I've seen over the years. This turning saw works better and the kit costs a fraction of even the expensive anodized aluminum coping saws. This is an excellent woodworking project that utilizes skills like shaping, carving, some hand tool work. Also, there is no better feeling than using a tool that you made yourself, especially when it works better than the store bought versions.
