Pratima Joshi is an architect and social entrepreneur successfully elevating the quality of life for the urban poor in several informal communities across Maharashtra and beyond. Recognising the issues around provision of safe access to basic services such as water, sanitation, social housing and waste management in informal urban settlements, she established Shelter Associates in 1993. They design innovative developmental solutions using concepts like multi-stakeholder consultation, data as foundation for policy, user-centric design and participative governance, with the aim of ensuring equitable distribution of rights and resources to the urban poor.
