How much yeast do you need in your wine or mead? Let's talk about it!

Hey friends! Today we're discussing how much yeast you really need in your mead or wine. The short answer is that you need a 1:1 ratio (1 gram of yeast for 1 gallon of mead/wine) for most normal meads or wines. However, if you are making a high gravity mead you will need to up your numbers some in order to lead to a healthy fermentation. Your yeast are the most important part of your brew! If they don't have a clean fermentation you will end up with a bad product.

Giving your yeast a good chance to battle through all the gravity they are against will allow for them to ferment well. One thing you can do to help them is to add some yeast nutrient. This will provide the yeast with nitrogen which ends up helping them ferment more efficiently. Let me know what you think and thanks for watching!
