I went to bed pretty early on that Monday night, December 8, 1980. I always had the radio on as I fell asleep. My aprents were watching Monday Night Football. I ironically was listening to 94.7 KMET. Suddenly I heard a knock on my bedroom door. I see the silhouette of my mom as she opens the door. "John Lennon was killed."
Nothing more was said as she quietly closed the door. That's when I heard the news break on KMET.
The next morning, I just spot recorded some of the LA radio stations talking about the killing of John Lennon. KLOS. K.Earth 101. KMET. K.Hits 97. KNX.
A couple nights later, my math teacher from Torrance High, Miss Sobeck and I went to the candlelight vigil at the towers in Century City hosted by 95.5 KLOS. I brought a cassette recorder and recorded a bit of KLOS' B.Mitchell Reed giving a speech.
