It is believed that Swami Ayyappan came to Cheerappan chira Kalari to learn Poozhiyankam one of the unique sword fight techniques in Kalarippayattu. There is a temple in the kalari known as Mukkalvettam ayyappa Temple, where Lord Ayyappa is the deity. It is believed that three forth of Lord Ayyappa's spirit will be here in this temple except on Makarasamkramthi day.
