Hi! This is the begining of my new CNC lathe project! I bought an old milling machine vertical spindle for quite cheap (~$125). I'll try to restore it to a better condition and convert it to belt drive instead of the original bevel gear drive. This time the spindle should be overkill comparing to my previous cnc lathe project. It's got a SK50 Taper which is used in milling machines which weight is about ~3-5 tons. I think it should be suitable for a simple homemade machine regardless of the lack of though-hole possibility.
