Mandu is around 40kms from Maheshwar and we crossed some barren land as well as few settlements to reach our destination. Mandu emerged in the 6th century ,but the power struggle to conquer mandu became prominent in the 14th and 15th century , when the Mughal armies of Humayun and Akbar made repeated attempts to capture it from the Malwa Sultanate .
Situated in the hills the city is naturally bound by the Vindhya range and the flowing Narmada , which made it a great option for a pleasure retreat of the Mughals .
