Carpenter Ants are one of the most misunderstood insects! They actually hardly ever do damage to peoples homes. Instead, Carpenter Ants only nest in wood that is already started to decay or have moisture inside. These Ants are very important members of the ecosystem, helping breakdown old decaying wood and other debris. They don't eat the wood either. If you have a carpenter ant infection and don't see any sawdust, that means that they are not nesting in that wood.
