I found this spalted, rotting chunk of wood at my parent’s house in Ohio and brought it home thinking, “who knows? Maybe I can do something interesting with it.” I had no idea it was cedar at the time, but as soon as I started cleaning it up, that smell was unmistakable.

Because it was pretty punky, I had to cast it in resin to harden it up, but the green ended up being a nice contrast to the red of the cedar wood. Using standard woodturning techniques, I was able to turn it round, then get it in the bowl for casting. It floated just a bit, but I was able to use my new CNC machine to carve out a place for the chuck at the right angle so it wasn’t tilted as I starting the woodturning process.
