New Zealand Touring, Day 2: Saturday, March 2, 2024

We woke up to a chilly morning with dense fog.
Today, we are heading to Moeraki Beach with its enigmatic round boulders.

Driving on a road with a speed limit of 100 km/h, everything we saw along the way was fascinating and highlighted the differences from Japan.

At Moeraki Beach, we saw many large round boulders.
The scenery is both mysterious and captivating. 😆

According to Māori legend, these boulders are said to be gourds that washed ashore from the great canoe Araiteuru, which wrecked about 1,000 years ago.

Scientists explain that these boulders are septarian concretions formed about 65 million years ago. Similar to the process of pearl formation, crystallized calcium and carbon materials gradually accumulated around a charged particle nucleus, and over approximately 4 million years, these round stones were formed.

Either way, these boulders have a mysterious charm that attracts many tourists.💕 Everyone was enjoying themselves, taking photos and touching the stones. 😊👍
