নারী -তিনি মানুষই হোন বা দেবী, প্রতিক্ষেত্রেই নারী নির্যাতনের শিকার। যে ইতিহাস আমরা দেখতে পাই পদ্মাবতী বিষহরি মনসার ক্ষেত্রেও। পুরুষতন্ত্রের কাছে, সমাজের কাছে শুরু থেকেই সাধারণ মানুষের দেবী, সর্পদেবী মনসা লাঞ্ছিত ও নির্যাতিত। মহাদেব শিবের কন্যা হয়েও চাঁদ সওদাগরের সঙ্গে মনসার লড়াই শুধু পৌরাণিক গল্প নয়, তা বাংলার ইতিহাস ও বাঙালির সমাজেরই এক ছবি। আজ যখন নারী নির্যাতনের ঘটনায় সারা বাংলা সারা দেশ উত্তাল, তখন রইলো আমাদের নিজস্ব এই দেবীর গল্প। তাঁর ইতিহাস, যে ইতিহাস প্রাচীন ভারতের হরপ্পা সভ্যতা থেকে এখনও আমরা বয়ে নিয়ে চলেছি আমাদের ধর্মে-সংস্কৃতিতে।
