"Warum soll ich treu sein?" (Lit Why should I be faithful ?) was performed by Marika Rökk in her 1940 movie "Kora Terry" in which she played twin sisters Kora and Mara Terry. Though Kora and Mara are twin sisters they are very different. Kora is cold and ambitious while Mara is soft and kind hearted. After Mara accidentally kills Kora during an argument Mara decides to take Kora's place because she wants to take care of Kora's daughter. Tops, the sisters' caretaker takes the blame for killing Kora/Mara and goes to jail.

In the movie Kora seduces violinist and composer Michael Varany (played by Will Quadflieg). When he plays the melancholic "Wenn es Frühling wird" (When spring comes) for Kora, she likes the song but wants to change it so,it will suit her character and style. The song then becomes "Warum soll ich treu sein"...

It is one of the lesser known songs of the movie and is rarely heard. I do not know any ohter recorded versions except this one by Marika Rökk with the excellent Frank Fux orchestra.

The video opens with a short sequence from "Kora Terry" and starts after Varany has played "Wenn es Frühling wird" for Kora. It ends with Tops' opinion of Kora.
