Zahedan is one of the metropolises of Iran and the capital of Sistan and Baluchistan province.
Zahedan has a strategic geographical, commercial and military position and special conditions. In such a way that Pakistan's railway enters Iran from Mirjaveh border on one side and Iran's national railway leads to this city on the other side.
Before the Pahlavi period, Zahedan was a small and remote village called Dezap. Later, with the cooperation of Reza Shah's forces under the command of Amanullah Jahanbani, it was named Zahedan in 1929 because most of the people in that area were religious. The word Zahedan literally means "city of the pious".
Today, the main ethnic composition of this city is Sistani and Baluch.
