Son of Clotaire II, he was placed at the age of 10 under the tutelage of Pépin de Landen and Arnould de Metz. On the death of his father, he took control of Austrasia, Neustria and Burgundy and settled in the Paris region. He leaves to his brother Caribert II, the care of governing Aquitaine. On the death of Caribert, Dagobert had his young son assassinated and thus became sole king of the Franks, while at the same time subduing the rebellious Gascons. Dagobert is a brilliant and refined ruler, his reign is marked by inner peace and order. He surrounds himself with brilliant men such as Saint Ouen or Saint Eloi. In 634, Dagobert was carried away by dysentery, he was buried in the abbey of Saint Denis which became the tomb of the kings of France. Dagobert had many wives, Clovis II and Sigebert III succeeded him.
