A massive fire broke out on October 14 in Mul-Warwan, a remote village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district, causing widespread devastation. The blaze, which erupted around 1 PM in broad daylight, quickly engulfed the entire village, turning houses, cow sheds, and other structures into ashes. Over 80 structures were destroyed, and property worth crores was lost.

With no local fire service station in the village, the situation spiraled out of control. Fire tenders dispatched from Anantnag, the nearest district with firefighting resources, took nearly six hours to reach the spot due to the region’s hilly terrain and narrow roads. By the time they arrived, the village had been reduced to rubble.

Speaking to our reporters, residents expressed their grief, sharing that everything they owned, including food, clothing, had been lost in the fire. “We are living under the open sky, with nothing left,” said one of the affected villagers. “The fire took away everything in just a few hours.”

As of now, the affected 84 families are struggling without shelter, and immediate relief efforts are being sought. Authorities are yet to provide an official statement on the cause of the fire, but locals demand improved emergency infrastructure in remote areas like Mul-Warwan to prevent such tragedies in the future.
