All sports cars come with a standard fun attitude, but the 2025 BMW Z4 goes a step further with a soft-top layout that lets you bask in the sun while hitting the roads you drive for fun.

But the Z4 is still quite lively, and it moves eagerly with any of its engine choices. A 255-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine is standard equipment, as is an eight-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. For those who want maximum power, there is a 382 hp turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine that, for the first time, can be optioned with a new six-speed manual transmission that adds an extra dimension of driver engagement.

Prices for the 2025 BMW Z4 are expected to start around $55,225 and go up to $71,500 depending on trim and options.

At its base price, the Z4 sDrive30i is reasonable value. It costs significantly less than its main competitor, the Porsche 718 Boxster, and offers more than enough performance for most buyers. We also recommend the Dynamic Handling package, which adds larger M Sport brakes and an M Sport differential for additional traction. Your new Z4 sDrive30i still can't accelerate like the much more powerful M40i, but it's fast enough for fun.


Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The SDrive30i is powered by the brand's excellent 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which produces plenty of torque and feels stronger than its 255 horsepower. For more power, the M40i model gets a turbocharged six-cylinder engine with 382 hp. It is very subtle, subtle, and vicious when provoked. The Z4 comes standard with an eight-speed automatic transmission with sport and manual modes. Steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters are also standard equipment. The eight-speed is one of the best automatic transmissions with sharp response, quick shifts and smooth operation. The more powerful six-cylinder model can now be ordered with a Handschalter ("hand-shift" in German) package that adds a six-speed manual, stiffer anti-roll bars, a retuned adaptive suspension system, and special larger wheels and tires . . When the road gets twisty, the Z4 is willing, but it doesn't have the locked-in feel of the 718 or the twitchy aggression of the Supra.
