For ten years I have lived in this house and although I knew there was not a vent near the front door, I finally realized that there was open ducting beneath the floor! The builders FORGOT to connect a register to the end of the line! Hot air was just pumping into the joist space. I found it while installing my nest doorbell and it was so hot in the ceiling.
It was a pretty simple fix - just cutting the hole, extending the duct work to meet the floor above and sealing it all up.
Makes a HUGE difference to the warmth near the front entrance. And we now have a great place to warm up and dry out boots and mitts after playing outside in the snow! Perfect!
