The thought of finding and restoring one of the three original, all-gold 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air Sport Coupes that celebrated the production of GM’s 50-millionth car—built on November 23, 1954—was quashed upon learning that two had simply vanished and the one remaining had been burned and strewn across a property in North Carolina some time ago.

Not to be deterred, Real Deal Steel in Sanford, Florida, Snodgrass Chevy Restorations in Melbourne, Florida, and Steve Blades of Falmouth, Kentucky, joined forces to recreate the spectacular car through a no-expense-spared build to exacting standards to replicate the 50-millionth GM automobile. This is that special replica, and it was completed on January 29, 2024.

Crossing the auction block at Dana Mecum's 37th Original Spring Classic, the hammer dropped at $395,000 resulting in a final sale price of $434,500 including the buyer's premium.
