Carol "Avenger" Danvers/Vers (Brie Larson) is fighting for the Kree under Yon-Rogg (Jude Law). She is kidnapped by Skrulls, led by General Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), on a mission and taken to Earth. There she meet Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and discovers she is one of the bad guys. She meets up with her friend Maria Rambeau (Lashana Lynch) and her daughter, Monica Rambeau (Akira Akbar) to help protect the Skrulls. They are ambushed but defeat Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace) and her old friends, Yon-Rogg, Minn-Erva (Gemma Chan), Korath (Djimon Hounsou), Att-Lass (Algenis Perez Soto), and Bron-Char (Rune Temte) with the help of Goose the Flerkin Cat (Reggie). Uncle Greg has to tell his niece, Lori, a bedtime story but doesn't know any of the traditional ones. He uses his knowledge of movies, in this case, "Captain Marvel", to deliver. His misremembering and interpretation of events seem to twist the story into parody. Lacking any form of parental skills, he fumbles through the movie forgetting sometimes that he is telling this to a child.
