In October 2019, I had the unique opportunity to drive a Colani truck! Have you ever seen such a special appearance?

Luigi 'Lutz' Colani was a German designer who built objects inspired by nature and with an eye for aerodynamics. He said, "Why would you work as a designer with straight lines, when the world we live on is round?" From the 1970s Colani designed in this way, among other things, cars, planes and trucks. Lightweight and built so aerodynamically, that 25 to 50% fuel could be saved compared to a regular truck.

But why was that design never taken into series production? In any case, the interplay of lines and shape is difficult to produce in factory presses. The cabs are therefore handmade, so that the production process costs several millions of euros per truck. In total, only about thirty to thirty-five have been built over the years. And this is one of them.

The truck in this case is based on a DAF chassis and certain cabin interior elements have also been reused. The seating position is very upright and more towards the center of the axes. As a result, you have to steer differently while driving and mirror a lot. A very strange sensation!

This Colani truck functions as a demo / show truck for, among other things, product promotion and events. Of course, it is a very noticeable object...

Thanks to Marchi Mobile (http://www.marchi-mobile.com/) for making this experience possible and Marco Reim of Esquina Roadshow & Event Support (https://www.esquina-events.de/) for the great guidance that October day in Dortmund!
