WHITE HOUSE DOG BITES AGAIN: where do we draw the line? Major, President Joe Biden’s dog, has had two biting incidents. The second biting incident less than a month after the first. Should we take them at face value?

Major is one of the white house dogs, together with his “brother” Champ, they are known as Biden dogs or the white house dogs. Major Biden, a german shepherd rescue dog, has supposedly bitten two people. Or did he? What’s the difference between nipping and biting? Are they both a sign of dog aggression? Can we compare this incident with a full blown german shepherd attack? I think we need to take a step back and look at the history of german shepherds, their nature, as well as a look at basic dog behavior. Was Joe Biden’s dog Major in the right? Where do we draw the line?

I am glad that one of the white house dogs, Major, was a shelter dog. I hope this will draw attention to understanding dog behavior and that it will prompt people to adopt dogs, especially while kill-shelters remain legal. I am also happy to see that the President and the First Lady have chosen to stand by their dog and are looking at these accidents from Major’s point of view, not just theirs or ours.

Political affiliation and ideologies aside, I think this incident gives us a chance to step back and look at our world through the eyes of our animals: what does our world look like from their point of view?
