This is a very basic setup using minimal aids or tools to create a ring casting using a sand casting setup. Sand casting is appealing because it has a very cheap cost of entry compared to investment casting, and provides near instant gratification.

That's how many tries it took me to finally get my very first clean complete casting. After that I had learned a lot about failure and how to avoid it and was able to get casting usually in 1 or 2 tries at most. There are a lot of nuances in this technique that I do not go over, but that you'll learn over time.
