The first Roast in the modern era that was televised was the Roast of Drew Carey on ‪@ComedyCentral‬. Comedy fans were excited to see this type of show, they'd been getting stoned and watching the Dean Martin Roast infomercials for years and wanted to see it with more contemporary stars.

I have known Drew Carey for years and we are quite good friends. The guy telling the story in this video is Rick Messina, Drew's manager. Rick is one of the biggest managers of comedians in the business.

I thought this was going to be my big break. After another breakout performance, I'd finally get my hour special. And I KILLED. I literally killed.
