Note: you’ll use the same part number for the brake pad kit for both the right and left rear. You’ll need to order TWO sets so you’ll have one set for each side.

See how to replace the rear brake pads on a Yamaha YXZ1000R in this video from Partzilla.com. We’re going to do more work on this unit, so we’re lifting the whole unit in the air, removing all four wheels, and removing the skid plate underneath. You won’t have to go that far, but it is worth it to get the unit up on jack stands when doing this job. You don’t want to rely on a jack to hold this big UTV up while you’re torquing the bolts.

With it up in the air, we’ll show you how to remove the rear caliper on your YXZ1000. It’s a little tricky, and the suspension geometry in the rear requires you to use a swivel or an angled socket to reach one of the caliper mounting bolts. Otherwise, you need to remove the shock.

With the caliper removed, we’ll compress the pistons in the caliper, remove the old pads, and then replace the brake pads on our YXZ1000. Then we’ll bolt the caliper back on and repeat the process on the other side.
