Since many of us are stuck at home and off the water for the time being, we thought we’d help you pass the time by posting a few videos of great flies to have tied up and ready to go when the time comes. In today’s session of “Tying with Farmer”, Jonathan Farmer, owner of Midnight Sun Custom Flies, shows us how to tie his super cool Avenger Steelhead Fly. This is a great jack-of-all-trades pattern that has cross-over potential for both a smaller winter fly and as a great summer fly as well. This bug is a great choice as a smaller winter fly when the water is low, and the fish don’t want a 3.5” offering in their snout. As a summer steelhead fly, not only will it be a great go-to choice in various colors for those early summer and fall fish alike, but it’s a great first and last light choice in July and August as well! And as always, have fun and make this pattern your own; we’d love to see a Trout Spey version of this tasty morsel.
