NordVPN and Surfshark take security very seriously and have implemented all the necessary measures.

I have to give a very slight edge to NordVPN when it comes to security. You see, while jurisdiction might not be a problem in this case, it may still be a deal breaker if you’re a privacy buff.

I found functional kill switches to avoid IP leaks; obfuscated servers to mask the VPN connection; and a double VPN function, which chains two VPN servers for some extra security. In the Nord vs Surfshark comparison, NordVPN stands out a little with the Onion over VPN feature.

So specifically for this Surfshark vs NordVPN review I’ve tested both providers on 4 different locations, with a baseline of just above 300Mbps. Close-by servers didn’t have much effect on my speeds. But both providers slow down quite a bit when connecting to more distant servers.

In my tests NordVPN performed better, but Surfshark did not show bad results either, especially when connecting to not-so-distant servers. Ok, I think it’s fair to say that NordVPN is ahead when it comes to performance.

NordVPN has the most servers, while the VPN that covers most countries is Surfshark.

As expected, neither NordVPN nor Surfshark struggled when unblocking foreign libraries that some other VPNs had problems accessing.

Alright, let’s take a look into torrenting. NordVPN has dedicated P2P servers, while Surfshark has all their servers optimized for P2P, which allows for faster downloads.

However, NordVPN has a SOCKS5 proxy, which is perfect for torrenting, as it transfers data in smaller packets and it’s a feature that doesn’t cost anything extra.

🔒 Using NordVPN and Surfshark in countries with restricted internet access 🔒

Another feature that both of these VPNs provide are obfuscated servers. It’s specialized servers that scramble my traffic to make it look like a non-VPN, so it allows me to bypass VPN prohibitions.

It is especially useful in countries with restricted internet access or where VPNs are banned.

Alright, so while these two VPNs are quite similar, I’d say they are consistent with a lot of use cases.
