Sound of the Millennium Concert
Gateway of India, Bombay. January 2000

Zakir Hussain (Shakti) ? tabla
L. Shankar (Shakti, Gabriel) ? violin, vocals
Sultan Khan ? sarangi
Vikku Vinyakram (Shakti) ? ghattam (clay pot)
Selvaganesh (Vikku's son, Re Shakti, Shawn Lane) ? kanjira (Indian frame drum)
Sivamani (L. Subramaniam) ? percussion
Bhavani Shankar ? phakawaj
Tafiq Quereshi (Zakir's brother) ? percussion
Fazal Quereshi (Zakir's brother) - tabla
Ranjit Barot ? drums

Zakir gets together with some of India?s top percussionists and some of his instrumentalist friends to put on a show. No real set list as it is pretty much just one percussion solo followed by another. Sultan Khan and L. Shankar do get short solo pieces. The entire concert is called ?The Sound of the Millennium?. If you are a percussionist or just into Shakti, Trilok Gurtu, etc., I suggest you get this!

Notes: This show was broadcast on satellite by Sony entertainment television, hence the logo in the bottom right corner. I have had this show on a 3rd gen VHS for several years now and had been hoping to convince the person I got it from to get me the master so I could make a clean copy. Recently another friend got me this copy from a bootlegger. This copy is very clean. All commercials have been edited out. The bootlegger?s email and website are occasionally visible in the lower left corner.

To the best of my knowledge, this is not commercially available. I know, because when I got that 3rd gen VHS, I looked very hard as I wanted to buy it if it was available commercially.
