Not having enough or strong enough starter tea, temperatures and location are the top 3 reasons people get mold. I'll venture to say if you got mold its probably because of #1 which is starter tea. First, you need enough starter tea and second, you need strong starter tea.

Most people never encounter mold so it is pretty rare.
