- Harrison Butker not handling kickoffs? Chiefs’ special teams coordinator Dave Toub told the media that Justin Reid and/or Louis Rees-Zammit could handle some kickoff duties as Toub said the new NFL kickoff rules lead to the kicker being involved in more kickoffs.
- Nazeeh Johnson injury update: Johnson says he’s about 90% as he’s 9 months removed from ACL surgery. Johnson was a special teams ace in 2022 before missing last season as he’s also set to compete for CB reps.
- Kadarius Toney absent from OTAs for a 2nd straight week. While Chiefs’ OTAs are voluntary, Toney is on the roster bubble. Will Kansas City cut Toney before NFL Week 1?

Dave Toub On Chiefs’ kickoffs:
“I like to have somebody who is able to make a tackle, Butker is able to make a tackle, but I really don't want him making tackles all year long. If you watched the XFL -- I watched every play -- I bet kickers were involved in at least 25% to 40% of the tackles. Either trying to make a guy bounce back or making the tackle or missing the tackle. We don't want Butker in that situation. Justin [Reid] can cover, he can kick, and he can go down there and make tackles. A guy like Justin is a guy they have to worry about. They have to get him blocked and they have to give up blocking someone else. Louis [Rees-Zammit] has done above and beyond what I expected. He can kick field goals, he can be a kickoff guy for us. He's every bit as good as Justin (Reid) is at moving the football and stuff like that on kickoffs.”
