Six Flags Over Texas opened on August 5, 1961. It was the original Six Flags park and the first of three built by Angus Wynne. Times were much simpler back then.... no big fast-paced looping coasters.... just nice "family fun and adventure". Six Flags was based purely on Texas History and the countries that flew their flags over Texas throughout its history: Spain, France, Mexico, The Republic of Texas, The United States and the Confederate States of America. You will see the different sections as you peruse through this 1966 version of the park. The big edition for this season was the new Run-A-Way Mine Train.
