This summer festival is held around the annual festival of Musashi Ichinomiya Hikawa Shrine, the head shrine of Hikawa Shrine. On the first day, the floats of Miyamachi, Daimonmachi, Nakamachi, Shimomachi, and Yoshikimachi, which were purified in the annual festival, as well as gorgeous adult and children's mikoshi, parade around the east exit of Omiya Station, attracting many spectators. On the second day, in addition to the mikoshi parade and the float parade, various events can be enjoyed at various locations, such as the folk dance ring dance performed by many dancers, Awa Odori, and Japanese drum performances.
During the mikoshi parade and float parade, masked dances and music performances are performed, and you can enjoy the impressive sight of the carriers parading while shouting "Wasshoi, Wasshoi!"
An omikoshi is a portable shrine (vehicle) that a god rides on during festivals to travel around the local area. Carriers dressed in festival attire called hanten carry the mikoshi on their shoulders and travel around the area near the shrine. It is said that this is done to absorb and purify the area of ​​misfortune and impurities, and to grant people's prayers and wishes for a good harvest.
The appeal of omikoshi is undoubtedly the passion of the carriers. Some are heavy, weighing hundreds of kilograms, and many people join forces to carry them on their shoulders. Since it is generally carried by people living in the town, it contributes greatly to the formation of the local community.
