In Rheinhessen they are called trulli, in other regions simply Weinbergshäuschen or Wingertschützhütten. They mostly date from the 19th century and have a stone roof reminiscent of a beehive.

The special thing about them: the small domes were built completely without mortar, even a supporting framework inside is not necessary during construction. Layer by layer, the stones are piled up closer and closer until they finally form a small vault. This archetype of roof construction is widespread throughout Europe, and experts refer to it as "cantilever dome buildings".

In Obernhof an der Lahn, SWR Handwerkskunst accompanies the creation of a vineyard cottage with a stone dome under the guidance of the Austrian dry stone walling pope Rainer Vogler.
