(warning: the video shows flashing images)
The USGS F1cam gives us a thermal image of the Halema'uma'u caldera.
Between 07-01-2018 and 01-09-2018 we see the caldera floor collapse several times.
On 01-17-2019 the camera shifts position and things are stable until 11-06-2019 12:40HST
As scientists notice that the crater is filling up with water the camera moves again.
It slowly fills with water until 12-20-2020 21:38HST when erupting lava enters the lake.
The water boils off very quickly and now the crater rapidly fills with lava.
In the middle of the lava lake there appears to be an island floating around.
Around the end of may 2021 this part of the eruption seems over, only to resume on 09-29-2021
Refilling of the crater continues until 12-10-2022 when no visible lava can be seen anymore
Occasionaly the inner lake gets flooded with seemingly fresh lava, but this is mainly
caused by collapses under the lake's crust, lake water flowing over ice in a pond.
And what do you know, just after I finished making this video Kilauea erupted again...
