This analysis covers John Carpenter's excellent 1982 film THE THING. I know there are tons of analyses of this movie out there, but I'm coming to this one fresh. I never watched it before this week-- I avoided it because I don't like squanchy squooshy body horror. Well, I took the thing-pill and deep-dove into the ice core. Put on your giant sombreros and let's make our way out of the Norge-camp, across the tundra and the icewall; let's join the cold war prospectors (who've got morphine and blowtorches, which is a pretty good time in Vegas for a fella) and we'll unearth this dam alien before he gets dibeetus and tries to chopshop a flying saucer from helo parts.
