Nihara Oommen, student at Harmony - The Music School, sings 'Smoke Gets in Your Eyes' from the musical 'Roberta'. This Jazz standard song is written by Jerome Kern and Otto Harbach.
‘Smoke Gets In Your Eyes’ from the 1933 musical ‘Roberta’ is a melancholic tune that deals with themes of love, longing and loss.
Through this song, the singer describes their first experience with a love that set their ‘heart on fire’. Soon after, to the singers’ dismay, the ‘lovely flame’ that once consumed their heart, dies. All that’s left now is a ‘smoke that gets in your eyes’.
