Jane Chelliah, who once used to live on the Old Klang Road, a former pupil of the Assunta Convent, was awarded an MBE for her outstanding work in the civil service and her contributions to British society.
The award also recognizes her work in a charity for women with learning disabilities in London.

She has dedicated the award to her father, the late John Chelliah, the former director of the Malaysian Agricultural Producers Association. He urged both Jane and her sister, Dr. Janet Vasanthi Chelliah, to chase their dreams, however big they were and to do very well in life. He also told them that their gender should not get in the way of their ambition.

The London based Jane, who has worked in the civil service for the past 20 years, is an Assistant Director at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategies.

When asked, “What does the MBE means to you?”
Jane said, “It is a validation of my professional and personal values.
I can’t believe how far a girl from KL has come.”

Congratulations & Tahniah Jane!
You seized every opportunity to make a success of your life.
You overcame racism & faced many challenges.
Despite all this, you persevered and today, your hard work, focus & determination have paid off with this special award.
