UK company Brown & Mason has demolished the 183-metre-tall (600ft) chimney stack at Longannet Power Station in Scotland.

Located in Kincardine-on-Forth in Fife, the power station was the largest coal fired plant in Scotland - and the last of its kind in the country. It became operational in 1970 and, after 47 years of service, was closed in March of 2016.

Brown and Mason took down the structure, which is owned by energy firm ScottishPower, via a controlled explosion just yesterday (Thursday 9 December, 2021).

The demolition specialist used 700 kg of explosives and Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon pushed the button to initiate the blast.
