We heard that Beitou Hot Springs was a great place to see Japan's cultural influence on Taiwan, and we were surprised by how many Japanese buildings still exist today! Japan's influence far exceeds the buildings though - from hot spring resort development to the food, we learned a lot!

Video summary:
We visit Beitou, Taiwan, a popular day trip destination known for its hot springs and Japanese influence on local architecture. The Xinbeitou train station, built by the Japanese, serves as an example of the preservation of historical architecture. The rare Green Sulfur Springs found in Beitou and Japan is a significant connection between the two countries, and the curative properties of hot springs are discussed. The Beitou Museum was originally a hotel run by a Japanese family, where kamikaze pilots would spend their last night. A visit to the Puji Temple, a Japanese Buddhist temple over 100 years old, highlights the strong Japanese influence during the early 1900s Japanese colonial era. Our video also shows a visit to the Spring City Resort for lunch and a spa visit.
