Not one of the Banana's biggest hits, but one that I have a fondness of, and it is 40 years since its release in Britain. A no show here in Australia 'Rough Justice' was only a moderate success for the girls; reaching #23. The order of single release in 83/4 was different to various parts of the world. 'Cruel Summer' was a 1983 issue, and a #8 at home, but downunder it wasn't released until an entire year later (our Summer, which makes sense) but it barely scraped into our Top 40; despite lots of airplay and video play.

'Robert De Niro's' waiting was a massive hit in Britain (#3) but again a pretty limp success here (#40), which was weird as Bananarama had powered their way up the charts with 'Shy Boy' and a couple of years later would blitz the world with their Stock Aitken & Waterman cover of 'Venus'. With some two dozen chart entries in Britain and success all over the world, despite line up changes; the Bananas are still going strong after 40 years.

'Rough Justice' is such a boppy, light track which plays against the heavier, serious subject matter, so a tricky one to illustrate, but they were/are a fun band who never took their music too seriously and often looked quite nonchalant in their videos as if they didn't give a stuff!! Good on them. Bananarama one of the most successful girl pop bands ever. I'm not sure how this rare extended mix of the single came to be in my collection, but here it is!
