When Germany outlawed most knives in 2002 with section 42a of the Weapons Act, knifemakers in the city of Solingen responded with new tools that worked around the rules. Eickhorn, a manufacturer of military knives, combat knives, daggers, and bayonets since the 19th century, introduced a line of kitchen knives inspired by their more tactical offerings. The Eickhorn SEK and Eickhorn KM 2000 became innocent kitchen knives, rather than dedicated weapons.
