Thirty years ago, a purple dinosaur changed the world of children's entertainment forever. Since then, Barney has aired in over 280 territories (in over 100 countries) on six continents, sold over 90 million videos, and has become a beloved friend to millions of children around the world.

The story begins with a former teacher Sheryl Stamps Leach as she finds ways to entertain her son Patrick. After discovering a video called "Wee Sing Together" and finding there weren't many videos like that, she decides to create her own. With the help of Kathy Parker and Dennis DeShazer, she comes up with an unlikely kid's show protagonist: a stuffed purple T. rex named Barney, who comes to life through kids' imaginations.

The Barney & The Backyard Gang videos, through grassroots marketing, became a huge success, selling 500,000 copies as well as winning numerous awards and accolades. Thanks to this success, the purple dinosaur becomes a kidvid icon.

"The Dinosaur Sensation" is the first fan-made documentary about Barney, delving into the history of the world's most famous dinosaur from his humble beginnings and his rise to fame to the decline of the series and the slight resurgence of the character in the 2010s. The ups and downs, the highs and lows, and everything in between are covered here in this special multi-part celebration of one of the most famous children's television icons.
