Though it is an excellent firearm (if not the best) for its intended purpose, the Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan in .454 Casull has a flaw that may cause you to reconsider. However, It is the bear-stopping middle ground of revolvers. More powerful than a .44 magnum, but smaller than a .460 or .500 S&W. It's weight/size to firepower ratio is near perfect for hiking in dangerous animal stomping grounds. Just be aware of its tendency to jump crimp with certain types of ammo, and test your ammo thoroughly before heading out to the brush.
