This video is to show what surface farming looks like. I gathered both raw materials (minerals), and some salvage.

I dismiss my ship, because it fuzzes the radar if you're still close to it. After a while, it'll fly away anyways.

The radar is funky for beginners to use. Basically, it works like this.
If it shows on the bottom half, it's probably raw materials.
If it shows on the upper half, it's something man made (salvage or data)
If it shows on both, it's something, but the RNG hasn't decided yet.

The yield from salvage isn't going to make you as many credits as mining or combat, but it's enough to pay for your fuel and SRV reloads.

I bump the vertical thrusters a lot. It's good to keep rocks from bouncing you around, or to glide over uneven terrain. It'll also get you unstuck.

When I rolled the SRV, the slide and initial hit did all the damage. The thrust and roll kept the damage from being worse.

0:00 Approach
2:40 Landing
3:35 Launch SRV and dismiss ship
6:10 First outcrop - Sulphur, Manganese, Arsenic, Iron, Yttrium
8:15 Salvage Cargo - Gold, Goslarite
10:52 Roll (oops)
13:55 Second outcrop - Germanium, Sulphur, Manganese, Nickel
16:00 Third outcrop - Iron, Phosphorus, Arsenic, Sulphur

I play with a single stick and keyboard.
yaw is mapped to the wheels.
pitch and roll are mapped to the SRV's pitch and roll thrusters, so I can do aerobatics, including roll recovery.
[w] and [s] are the throttle.
[t] target.

As you see, I only roll back enough for the next item to be ahead of me, even though I can't see it yet. Once you can target it, you can pick it up. Scrubbing back and forth works well, if there aren't any obstructions. Like where I hit the rock on the first pickup. If you hit something, drive out a little, and come in a bit differently.

Flying a SRV is like flying a helicopter. As mine is configured, it's a helicopter without yaw control. You can do better with HOTAS, but it works like this.

Nose down and thrust up will make you fly forward.
Nose up and thrust up makes you fly backwards.
Roll left and pitch up will make you turn left.
Roll right and pitch up will make you turn right.

Watch your VSI (right side of flight info HUD), if you're coming down too fast, you'll take damage when you hit.

There is no flight assist. You have to manage the whole flight of the SRV. It won't be pretty for your first hundred tries. That's ok. The deaths of your previous clones made the next generations a little smarter.

Apologies for the Steam thing. I didn't even notice it until after I was recording.
