Africa is so diverse that it takes bitesize chunks of regions to explore. In this video we look at the languages of Northwest Africa, its native languages not Arabic, which fall broadly in to Nilo-Sarahan, Berber and Songhay groups, and stretch from the Maghreb south of Spain to the Sahel beyond the Sahara Desert. This is a vast region, with a long, fascinating history which has shaped its languages and cultures.
