A honeypot in cybersecurity is a decoy set up to appear to hackers like a high-value asset, like a server. The idea behind it is that attackers will go for the decoy server, instead of an organization’s actual server. The purpose? To either study hacking activity, or to draw intruders away from the real network. Honeypots can be risky, though, as they do eventually connect back to the main system and can put the network at risk.
